The Stony Mountain Rockwood Fire Department (SMRFD) is one of three departments in the RM of Rockwood and have been proudly protecting our community for over 50 years. Our crew is, at full staff, 22 community members. SMRFD responds to mutual Aid requests by all neighboring fire departments in our mutual aid district.
The firefighters are paid on call basis, although generally referred to as volunteers, crew members have work commitments outside of the Fire Department. When our members are responding to the fire hall or scene, they use red LED dashboard lights to identify themselves as emergency responders. If it is safe to do so please, give them the right of way. This will allow our members to get the the fire hall and respond to the emergency in a safe and timely matter.
The department hosts the Canada Day Parade, an open house during Fire Prevention Week, the annual Firefighters Ball, Rob's Christmas Ride and delivers Christmas Hampers to our community.
